My G.I. Jane Outfit

After seeing Demi Moore’s portrayal of Lieutenant Jordan O'Neil in the 1997 action movie G.I Jane I wanted to create my own version of her character in Second Life.

Sometimes I’ll get lucky and find a complete outfit and other times I just make the outfit up by using clothes and accessories from different creators which can be a lot of fun as I watch it all fit together giving it it’s own originality.

Everything that I am wearing here comes with a colour change HUD so you can alter your look whenever you wish making it a lot more versatile.

A Cool Outfit With So Many Options

My Style

Jane Cap Hair from Wasabi (Formerly known as Wasabi Pills)

Bubble Gum from LAQ

Latex Bento Gloves from Velvets Dreams

Tiraen Shirt and Bikini from R3VOLT CITY

ALISSA SKATES (with simple skating animation)

and LEG WARMERS from KC Couture

Quinnty’s *** A Fun Pace To Shop

When it comes to Second Life I am a self confessed shopaholic even if I’m not buying anything I still like to check out new stores or new to me at least so if I come across one that I really like then I’ll blog the outfit(s) so that you guys can check it out for yourselves.

I discovered a neat little store in my travels by the name of Quinnty’s and I don’t usually pay to join groups however this one was just my style for the bargain price of 50 Linden I signed up straight away.

The Quinnty’s store caters to the lovers of casual and retro fashion. Most of the clothing come with HUD’s with different colours and/or different designs.

Prices are cheap too at 100 Lindens for a fat pack of leggings or tops and there are dresses and single tops as well. A great way to mix and match your look.

If you like this style of clothing take a look  just type Quinnty’s in search. I don’t post store SLURL’s because places are always changing but it’s easy to find.

I’ve written a little blurb below about what I’m wearing and I’ve included the creators of my hair and shoes as well if anyone wants … enjoy.

Applier Clothing *** What Are You Wearing?

My transition from a classic avatar to a mesh one wasn’t exactly easy and going from a look that I had become accustomed to for years to having a separate body and head was a little daunting at first but I got there and I am still getting there.

Buying clothes became an issue. Like everything else in this world of mesh I had to demo my outfits too and that can’t be hard right?

Wrong! My first experience with demoing clothes in a store came as quite a shock to me because when you WEAR one item another one can disappear and bam there you are in the store naked which is not a pretty sight.

Or maybe it is but it wasn’t for me at the time and I rode that TP hard all the way home and didn’t look back.

I had to consider my options. Do I take my demos home and try them there? What now? I didn’t have a clue so I decided to use my applier underwear.

Confused? Okay when you buy your body and in my case it's Maitreya you also get a few extras such as your body HUD and a lingerie applier HUD that you use to apply lingerie to your body in the form of a tattoo or underwear or even clothes and it will not come off until you take it off via your body HUD.

It is a simple little lingerie ensemble complete with bra and pants and stockings and suspenders with different clothing options and you can save your styles in the slots of your body HUD.

I went to the LARRY store and bought some applier jeans and top combos and over time my applier clothes collection grew and I now have a few trusted items that I can wear when I can’t think of what to wear or for when I go shopping to demo a thing or two.

In my opinion applier clothing is not much different from any other clothes in the sense that they are either well detailed or they look really noob as though they have been drawn onto your avatar. When it comes to appliers people usually love them or hate them.

For me personally? They are a great idea.

Regardless of what you wear … be happy with the you that you created.

Want to look like a newbie? Do it … still classic? Who cares? Converting to mesh? Go for it … my number one rule in Second Life is … be who YOU want to be NOT someone else’s idea of who you should be.

You are YOUR vision … dream big.

Lily’s Second Life Haven

Lily Swindlehurst has been a part of Second Life since 2007 and has been helping new residents for many years.

I met Lily at Help People Island back in December 2009 when I first started and I am here with her today catching up on old times.

Lily can you tell us about your experiences in Second Life and where it has taken you so far?

Hi Pandora,

Currently I am Co-owner of Helping Haven Gateway and Owner of Living Memories Memorial Garden.

I joined in 2007 were I ran a club OSBC for a year and a half with my partner who is now my RL man CharlesDe Beaumont, yes we are still together and happy in RL.

I became an SL mentor also.

I joined Help People Island ( HPI) in 2009 until it closed in 2011 as a supervisor, helping both new and old residents with SL issues.

In Sept 2011 we ( Lily Swindlehurst, Aullere Ocello, CharlesDe Beaumont and Notfragile Gausman) formed Helping Haven, for the last seven years since we have continued the good work here, we gained Gateway status in 2016 becoming Helping Haven Gateway.

I am in world most days, helping people, adding to our shops, organising our calendar, we still provide our unique mix of great help, free shops, free homes, breakfast club, classes and events. We have recently added many more items to the free shops which now have live models and upgraded the plaza and club area.

We are always on the  look out for new team members so any volunteers feel free to IM me in world if you are interested.

I enjoy very much working with the wonderful team of over 100 helpers, many of whom have been with us for many years. I still get a buzz from seeing residents happy and their questions or problems resolved, that is why I am still here after nearly twelve years.

In 2015 I began a  solo project separate from Helping Haven. Living Memories Memorial Garden is a place where you can have a tree, plaque and candle for a loved one who has passed away, the service is free. I began this after being inspired from some memorial trees in RL that I once saw. The garden seems to provide a source of comfort for people who cannot visit the RL grave of their loved one.

Along the way I have also been involved in exhibiting at the SLB expos, talking at a VWBPE conference, helping some RL University students with SL assignments, charity events, exhibiting the poetry of Ratsie here at Haven, running a public beach, and I am in talks currently for short video about couples in SL who made it over to RL. We have also met some of  our SL friends in RL and a good time was had by all.

Overall I would say that my experience of Second Life has been very positive, I have met some wonderful creative and amazing people along the way, many of whom have remained good friends, some even in RL too.

The ever changing world here, the social interaction and sharing of so many sights and sounds worldwide never ceases to enthral me. When I have time I enjoy exploring some of the more scenic sims, art exhibitions and listening to live music here.

I plan to continue in SL and look forward to meeting many more fascinating people from all over the world.

Have a great SL and RL.

Lily Swindlehurst.

Thank you Lily for sharing your story. You have been an ongoing inspiration to me and many others in Second Life.

Regards: Pandora.

Catch up with Lily and all of the info on Haven's Facebook page.
