Hi there, my name is Kat, (well it’s not but that’s close enough) and I am Pandora’s alt, so what am I doing on her blog? Well, I want to tell my story about what life is like in Second Life as an alt, by the way, an alt is an alternative account, it’s secondary, an afterthought if you will, maybe even an accident, basically it comes down to this, the creator of Pandora's Second Life account decided to make an alt, for whatever reason, and here I am.
Pandora had two alts before me, their names were BJayy and Sindy, I say were because Pandora decided to delete their accounts and recreate them on her main account, and she left me behind, now that’s just mean, or maybe not, as I am the only alt now, which makes me feel kind of special.
I have payment info on file, lots of Lindens, my profile is up to date, I’m accumulating a very nice inventory, I am logged in on a regular basis, and I consider myself to be luckier than some other alts. Pandora is my only contact, she tells people that it’s because I am anti social, which is simply not true, however that is how she wants it, so it is what it is.
Do I talk to myself? All of the time, do I love myself? Most definitely, Do I take myself seriously? Never, and neither should you.
I know why I‘m here, I am Pandora’s alone time, her me time, when she’s bored and wants to check out the grid undisturbed, that’s where I come in, and I don’t mind, as I said before, I am her only alt now, that is the best part. I am just another aspect of Pandora’s personality and she is an aspect of her creators personality.
Okay, so you’re reading this and you think I’m crazy, because you know who is behind the alt right? Let’s have some fun with this, I ask you, how do you treat your alts? Do they even have a profile photo or Lindens? What about payment info? Do you log them on much, if at all?
This little rant is meant to be very tongue in cheek, and maybe you have learnt something from it, or even got a laugh out of it. Alts were not always accepted in SL, most of them were seen as griefers (someone who harasses others in SL) and troublemakers, hopefully a lot of that is changing, and SL is becoming an even better place for people to lose themselves.
Second Life is what you make it, it is not a game, it is a virtual world, and it’s yours to use, not to abuse, so treat people how you would like to be treated, and remember, whether you are talking to the holder of a main account, or an alt account, that there is a real person behind their avatar, with real feelings and emotions, just like you, yes there are people who behave badly in SL, unfortunately, they are everywhere, ignore them, or report them if you need to, and go on your way, and have fun, it is your world, own it.
